Share your screen with someone
You can let one other person see your PC's screen for a while, for example a friend helping you with a problem. They need their own DextraDesk account; a free one is fine.
Only share with people you know. DextraDesk will never ask you to share your screen. If someone phoned you and asked you to do this, it's a scam.
Share your screen
- On My PCs, click Share under the PC. Or, on that PC, right-click the DextraDesk icon by the clock and choose Share my screen….
- Enter their email address and choose how long: up to 30 minutes on Free, up to 8 hours on Personal. Click Share and email them. We email them a link.
- When they connect, a yellow bar at the top of your PC's screen says who is watching. They see your screen and hear its sound, but can't use your mouse or keyboard.
- When they click Ask for control, the bar and the website say so. Click Allow or Don't allow. You can also click Let them control on the bar or on My PCs without being asked.
- Click Take back control or Stop sharing at any time, on the bar or on My PCs. Stop sharing is also in the DextraDesk icon's menu. The share ends by itself when its time is up.
What they can and can't do
- With control, they can do what you can on the PC: use the mouse and keyboard, copy and paste, and send and take files. Without it, they only watch and listen.
- They never see your sign-in screen, lock screen or "Do you want to allow this app…" windows; their picture pauses until you're back on your desktop. They can't press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
- One person at a time: sharing again replaces the share that's running. When you connect to the PC yourself, they're switched off until you leave.
Watch a PC someone shared with you
- Open the link in the invitation email. Log in, or create a free account, with the email address the invitation was sent to: only that account can watch.
- Click Connect. The PC is also listed under Shared with you on My PCs until the share ends.
- To use the mouse and keyboard, click Ask for control at the bottom of the picture. "You have control" shows when they allow it.
- If the picture goes dark with "Paused", the PC is showing a sign-in or permission screen; it comes back by itself. If it says the owner is using the PC, try again once they've left.
- To stop, click Disconnect. Leave on My PCs ends the share for both of you.
