Terms of Service
Last updated: 27 October 2026
Draft, pending legal review. These terms have not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and may change before DextraDesk launches publicly. Text in highlighted boxes is still to be filled in.
These terms are an agreement between you and [OWNER'S LEGAL NAME OR COMPANY], [POSTAL ADDRESS] ("DextraDesk", "we", "us"). They cover the DextraDesk website at dextradesk.com, the web app at app.dextradesk.com, the DextraDesk app for Windows, and our servers (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you use DextraDesk for an organisation, you agree for that organisation too.
1. What DextraDesk does
DextraDesk lets you see and control your own Windows PC from a web browser. You install the DextraDesk app on a PC and pair it with your account; then, signed in to your account, you can stream its screen and sound to your browser and send it mouse, keyboard and touch input. Our servers help your browser and your PC connect, and relay the encrypted stream when a direct connection isn't possible. They don't record what's on your screen.
2. Your account
- You must be at least [18] years old, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account or buy a plan.
- Give a real email address you control, and keep your password and two-factor recovery codes safe. You're responsible for everything done with your account. We recommend turning on two-factor sign-in.
- An account is for one person. Don't share your sign-in with others.
- Tell us straight away at support@dextradesk.com if you think someone else has used your account.
3. Only computers you're allowed to control
DextraDesk gives whoever is signed in to an account full control of the PCs paired with it. So:
- Install DextraDesk only on computers that you own, or that you're authorised to control by their owner (for example, your employer for a work PC).
- If other people use a PC you've paired, they must know DextraDesk is installed and that you can see and control the PC. DextraDesk shows who is connected and lets the person at the PC disconnect them; don't hide, disable or work around that.
- Never ask or trick anyone into installing DextraDesk and pairing their PC with your account, for example by posing as technical support, a bank, or a government agency.
4. Acceptable use
You must not use the Service to:
- access, watch or control any computer, account or data without permission, or to spy on, stalk or harass anyone;
- commit fraud or any other crime, or help anyone else do so;
- attack, overload, probe or disrupt the Service, other users, or anyone else's systems, or get around its security, rate limits or plan limits;
- use our relay servers for anything other than DextraDesk sessions, or send unreasonable amounts of traffic through them;
- resell, rent out or provide the Service to others as part of your own service without our written permission;
- copy, modify or reverse-engineer the Service, except where the law allows it or an open-source licence says you may.
If we have good reason to believe you've broken these rules, we may disable your account, disconnect your PCs, and, where the law requires or allows, report it to the authorities. To report misuse, see our contact page.
5. Your PC and what's on it
What you see and do on your PCs is yours, and you're responsible for it. We don't claim any rights to it. We only carry the encrypted stream between your browser and your PC so the Service can work; we don't record it and we can't see it.
Remote control has risks: anyone with your password and two-factor codes can use your PCs, and anything you do remotely has the same effect as doing it at the PC. Keep backups of important data.
6. The DextraDesk app
- We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the DextraDesk app on Windows PCs you're allowed to control, for as long as you have an account.
- The app updates itself. You agree that we may install updates, which may add, change or remove features. Each update is signed by us and checked before it's installed.
- The app includes open-source software, such as FFmpeg, which is licensed under its own terms (the LGPL for FFmpeg). Nothing here limits your rights under those licences.
7. Plans and payment
- The Free plan costs nothing and has the limits shown on our pricing page. We may change the Free plan's limits, and will tell you by email first if you use it.
- Paid plans are subscriptions, billed in advance each month or each year, and renew automatically until you cancel. Prices are in US dollars. Taxes such as sales tax or VAT are added where they apply.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. [If Stripe Managed Payments is used: "Stripe (or its affiliate) sells the subscription to you as merchant of record, and its terms also apply to the purchase."]
- You can cancel any time in the app under Settings → Billing. You keep your paid plan until the end of the period you've paid for, and you're not charged again.
- If a payment fails, Stripe retries for about two weeks. If it still fails, your account moves to the Free plan. When you move to a plan with fewer PCs, nothing is deleted; PCs over the limit can't be connected to until you remove some or upgrade.
- We may change prices. We'll email you at least [30] days before a new price applies to your subscription, and you can cancel before then.
- Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep DextraDesk running well, but we can't promise it will always be available, fast or free of errors. It depends on your PC, your networks and services we don't control. We may change, add or remove features. If we stop offering a paid plan, we'll give you reasonable notice and refund any unused prepaid time.
9. Ending your account
- You can delete your account any time in the app under Settings. This removes your account and PCs straight away and disconnects them. It also cancels any paid plan immediately, and the unused part of the current period isn't refunded (see our Refund Policy). If you'd rather use up the time you've paid for, cancel under Settings → Billing and delete your account after the period ends.
- We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if your account puts the Service or others at risk, or if the law requires it. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
- Sections 3, 4, 5 and 10 to 13 still apply after your account ends.
10. Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or business, arising from the Service. Our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or [US $50]. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer under the laws of the place you live.
12. Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because you broke these terms or misused the Service (for example, by reaching a computer you weren't allowed to), you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, to the extent the law allows.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of [STATE AND COUNTRY]. Disputes will be handled by the courts of [PLACE], unless the law of the place you live gives you the right to bring them elsewhere. Before going to court, please email us so we can try to sort it out.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For important changes, we'll email account holders at least [14] days before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can delete your account.
