Download DextraDesk
Install DextraDesk on the Windows PC you want to reach. The device you connect from needs only a web browser.
The download page shows the latest version and its size.
What you need
- A PC with Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Mac and Linux aren't supported yet.
- For the smoothest picture, a graphics card or built-in graphics from AMD, NVIDIA or Intel. Without one, DextraDesk uses Windows' own video encoder.
- A fast internet connection: the picture uses about 20 Mbit/s, so the PC needs that much upload speed and the device you connect from that much download speed. On slower connections the picture may stutter.
- A DextraDesk account (free).
How to install
- Open the file you downloaded (
DextraDesk-…-setup.exe). - Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" or say the publisher is unknown. That's because the installer isn't signed with a code-signing certificate yet. Click More info, then Run anyway. Your browser may also ask whether to keep the file: choose Keep.
- Follow the steps. It installs for your Windows user only, needs no administrator password, and takes under a minute.
- DextraDesk starts by itself, and again each time you sign in to Windows. Its icon sits by the clock (click the ^ arrow if you don't see it).
- Right-click the icon and choose Pair this PC. Your browser opens with the code filled in: sign in and click Add PC.
Good to know
- DextraDesk works while you're signed in to Windows. It can't yet show the sign-in or lock screen, or click administrator ("Do you want to allow this app…") prompts.
- While someone is connected, the icon shows their email, and you can disconnect them from its menu. Pause takes the PC offline until you resume.
- DextraDesk updates itself. Each update is signed by us and checked before it's installed, and it's installed only while nobody is connected.
- To remove it, use Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps. Remove the PC from your account on the website too.
- The installer includes FFmpeg, open-source video software licensed under the LGPL.
