Slow or strict networks
How fast does the connection need to be?
About 10 to 20 Mbit/s gives full quality. It still works down to about 1 Mbit/s, with a smaller, softer picture. The PC's upload speed matters most, and it's usually much lower than its download speed.
Office, hotel and mobile networks
DextraDesk connects your browser and PC directly when it can. When a network blocks that, it goes through our relay server instead, even on networks that allow only web traffic. The relay passes the encrypted data along without being able to read it. You don't need to change any settings or open ports.
If the picture stutters or is blurry
- Open Quality in the viewer: it shows the connection, whether it's direct or relayed, and the frame rate.
- Lower the frame rate to 30 fps, or choose a lower quality. The picture adapts by itself, but this helps on very slow links.
- Close other things using the internet on the PC, such as big downloads or video calls.
- On Wi-Fi, move closer to the router, or use a cable for the PC.
- If one video format misbehaves, choose Most compatible (H.264) under Video format in the viewer's settings.
Still not right? Click Report in the viewer while it's happening. The report includes how the connection was doing, so we can see what went wrong.
